Scientists closer to creating reference genome for Indians; 10,000 samples sequenced already

Preliminary findings suggest a large number of population specific variations. The scientists have also identified certain variants that are indicative of several cancers and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (thickening of heart muscles) among others or variants that may be responsible for resistance against anticoagulants (blood-thinner drugs) and antiviral drugs.
